Q. The registration page asks if I am a new visitor. What is this about?
A. To smoothly process the registration and the payment of fees, the conference uses the ticketing platform stager.nl. If you have never used this ticketing platform before (which most likely you haven’t, since it is a Dutch platform), you can create a new profile or simply login via facebook. The rest of the process is rather straightforward, since stager accepts most major credit cards
Q. Do speakers and session chairs have to register and pay the same fee as standard visitors?
A. All speakers and session chairs to AHRA 2018 need to register and pay the conference registration fee, but please take advantage of the discounted early bird registration fee (which will be available throughout August, that is, a few weeks after the deadline for confirmation of participation in the conference).
Q. We are multiple authors, but could only one of us be present at the conference to present our work?
A. We would strongly advise that all authors of a paper be present at the conference, since only those who have registered to present and attend will be named in the conference program and other material documenting the conference.
Q. Is there any student discount available?
A. Unfortunately, we are not able to support students as much as we would like. The only discount available is the “early bird” registration fee (which is the same available to all speakers and chairs).
Q. Is there any reduced rate for visiting or unaffiliated scholars?
A. While we are aware of the difficult conditions for visiting and unaffiliated scholars, unfortunately at this time, we are not able to provide any reduced fee beyond the “early bird” registration fee (which is the same available to all speakers and chairs).
Q. We are a collective entity and would like to register our collective as the author/speaker. Is that possible?
A. While the registration of a collective entity as an author/speaker is theoretically possible, only one member of the collective would be able to present and attend the conference.
Q. Do you have special rates for registration?
A. Yes, we have early bird registrations starting in June 2018. This special rate will end in August 2018.
All About the Papers
Q. Is there a paper template and referencing style?
Q. What is the length of the presentation?
A. Each session has between 4-5 papers. We suggest that presentations and questions are a maximum of 20-25 mins. We leave it up to the session moderators on how the division between presentations and questions is organised. For sessions with 4 papers the word limit is a maximum of 3100 words (25min presentation) and sessions with 5 papers the word limit is a maximum of 2300 words (20min presentation).
Q. what should I do to have my paper considered for publication?
A. All papers submitted to the conference's various sessions are automatically submitted for consideration to be published in either a special conference issue of Architecture and Culture, the AHRA journal, or the Smartness? Between Discourse and Practice volume of the Routledge 'Critiques' series. The papers will go through a review process and we will give you more information during/ after the conference.
Q. what are the length of papers for publications?
A. Normally, authors will need to extend their papers for publications, since papers submitted for the conference are a maximum of 3100 words. We will give you more information during/ after the conference.
Q. Do I have to be in eindhoven for the presentation?
A. Yes. In case your abstract has been accepted please note that you need to give the presentation in person and register for the conference. Paper presentations over skype or any other video-conferencing system are not possible.
Q. what if we are more than 1 or 2 authors in a paper?
A. For all (one or more) authors to be part of the conference program they would need to register. Only registered authors will be added to the conference program and the proceedings.
Getting to Eindhoven
Q. Applying for a VIsa
A. Once you have registered for the conference (available from June 2018), through the CONFTOOL site you should be able to self-generate an invitation letter that you need for the visa application (once you log-in within your user profile). In case you are not able to generate this letter, please let us know and we will send you a letter.
Q. Can I get to eindhoven by Air?
A. Eindhoven Airport is a relatively small airport that does have a range of flights internationally, although it can be limited in terms of the days in which flights are available. A taxi from the airport, purchased from the care hire stand in front and paid in advance, is roughly €25-30 to the city centre. There is also a bus which runs regularly to the Train Station in the centre, which is near the hotels.
Most people coming to Eindhoven internationally fly to Amsterdam Schipol. The airport in Amsterdam has a train station built into the airport, with direct trains to Eindhoven every 30 minutes during peak periods. Tickets bought at the airport are €20 (approximately) and can be purchased at the machines on the Schipol Plaza or at the NS ticket office. Q. Can I get to Eindhoven by train?
A. Scholars coming from selected countries such as the UK, France, Belgium, Germany can also consider planning their journey through https://www.nsinternational.nl/en. Options such as the Eurostar can be taken until Amsterdam where you can change to the national service to get to Eindhoven. If bought in advance, prices can be comparable to flying.
Q. Can I get funding for the conference?
A. We do not have any funding available for the conference. During the conference however we are providing lunches, drinks and snacks. For the conference dinner, the ticket is available when you register for the conference.
